Best of the rest 2008/9

Football off-seasons in the modern day are mercifully brief, for us supporters at least. Liverpool's pre-season is well underway and there have already been some transfers into and out of the club. But to draw a line under the past season, I thought I'd come up with a team of opponents whose strong performances against us in 2008/9 have stuck in my mind.

My Anti-Liverpool XI:

  1. Coach: Hiddink (Chelsea)
  2. Casillas (Real Madrid)
  3. Ivanovic (Chelsea)
  4. Jagielka (Everton)
  5. Lescott (Everton)
  6. Mendy (Hull)
  7. Simão (Atlético Madrid)
  8. Essien (Chelsea)
  9. Defour (Standard Liège)
  10. Ben Arfa (Olympique Marseille)
  11. Arshavin (Arsenal)
  12. Zaki (Wigan)

A little surprised to see Nemanja Vidic (MUFC) not appearing in your list.

He played out of his skin at Old Trafford. For Liverpool.

Yes, I was delighted by his vision and touch that day! And sheer presence on the field.

Vidic did lift 3 trophies though (if I am counting correctly), while our lot ended up with nothing.
